Jody Pearl - Bio & CV
I grew up surrounded by hand-made clothes, they were either knitted, crocheted or sewn. On leaving secondary school I found myself naturally drawn toward the fashion industry. A career that started in a knitwear factory, moved onto a fashion design course and developed into the Sew Outside the Lines Workshops I have been running continuously since 2002.
In between times I have managed my own clothing label and garment construction & pattern making business, sewing for other WA designers and design houses.
I have been re-inventing clothes most of my life. My first memory is at 11yrs when I added wedges of floral fabric (cut from a brand-new handmade skirt) to the slashed sides of a brand-new pair of jeans. I thought they looked gorgeous and wore them with pride...my mother was horrified & I got into a lot of trouble. Undetered, here I am years later still re-inventing and encouraging the planet to do the same!
I have a very formal background in sewing and design, having studied and worked in the industry for over 30yrs. The transistion from formal dress design & made-to-measure has been made all the easier due to my formal sewing & design training. Skills I find a pleasure to share with others.
I believe clothes need to serve 2 purposes ie. adornment and protection, Re-inventing reflects these 2 simple principles. By combining my sewing & design abilities with a fearless imagination I have developed a unique way of re-designing existing garments into brand-new creations.
During classes you will discover the most efficient & effective way to produce new garments which express who you are as an individual.
There are 3 things you should consider before joining me;
1. You CANNOT make a mistake.
2. You will NEVER look at another piece of clothing the same way again.
3. Re-inventing is ENDLESS and can be EXTREMELY ADDICTIVE!
